Andy Garside

A love of the music of the 1960s and a fascination with radio was what set me on the path to radio broadcasting and eventually to “The Sixties Plus”. In the early 1990s with this interest I volunteered to help out behind the scenes at a commercial radio station fairly close to where I was living at the time and whilst I didn’t go there with the intention of sitting at a microphone after a few months I was offered the chance to do some shows.  I decided to have a go and after my initial trial shows I was given the chance to do some more and then before I knew it I was given a regular weekly show and became hooked. After a few years at that first radio station the intervening years have taken in a number of different venues including hospital radio in Kettering and Leicester, RSLs, Community Stations and I’ve now been here at NCCR for 10 years. At all of those stations the opportunity was there to play music of the 1960s. Within my two hours on a Sunday morning I like to include some lesser heard songs as well as the familiar hits of that golden decade and the title of the show means I do venture outside the 1960s, including a few tracks from the late 1950s and the early 1970s. They’re a great team to work with here at NCCR and we presenters have a free hand to play the music that we want to play (in the hope that we are playing what people like to listen to).
