Laid Back Music Show

Lay back, relax ready for the week

Music has always been a big part of my life having fell in love with it in 1963. My dad bought me a record player and gave me £1 to buy three records,  in those days they were 6s 8d or 33 1/3pence. I bought 24 Hours From Tulsa by Gene Pitney, I Want To Hold Your Hand by The Beatles and I’m The One by Gerry & The Pacemakers which I later had autographed by Gerry himself.
During the 1980s and 1990s I presented on hospital radio at Redditch, Bromsgrove and Kidderminster but sadly had to give it all up because of work committments.
Early in 21st century I read that a guy I worked with on Hospital Radio was setting up a Community Radio station covering my home town Redditch. He invited me to join and I had many happy years there. It sadly closed when OFCOM refused to give us a full FM licence and I thought my time on Community Radio was over. However I joined another station but for many reasons was only there for a very short time. I then heard about N.C.C.R I contacted its Chairman Rob Eden who invited me to join, that was November 2011. I remember thinking at the time I will join, see what it’s like then decide at Christmas if I wanted to stay, that was Christmas 2011 and I’m still there!
Best part of being a presenter on N.C.C.R is  that it has given me the opportunity to forge links with the local community none more so than Gloucester & Warwickshire Railway as I am also a train fanatic. I know many of the volunteers on the railway and they have been guests on Laid Back Music Show many times. It is also the only station I’ve been at where the presenter chooses the music for their shows. Music on Hospital Radio is generally chosen by patients and Community Station in Redditch was chosen by a computer system called myriad!
N.C.C.R is going from strength to strength and I feel privileged to be part of it and intend staying for many many years.
