Tickets are now on sale for Gloucestershire-based charity Meningitis Now’s favourite event of the year – the Five Valleys Walk.

The charity is looking forward to welcoming walkers back to this flagship fundraising event through the stunning Cotswold countryside after a two-year break.

The walk will take place on Sunday 25 September. You can book tickets online at or by calling the Meningitis Now head office on 01453 768000.

Meningitis Now Fundraising Officer, Kat Hollywell, who’s organising this year’s walk, said: “We’d love you to join us for the Five Valleys Walk this year to make this our biggest and best year yet.

“By joining us for the walk you’ll be helping us move ever closer to our ambitious target of beating meningitis in the UK within a generation.

“The Five Valleys Walk holds a special place in our hearts and offers a fabulous day of walking, entertainment and local food.”

As always, the beauty of the walk is that those taking part don’t have to complete the full 21-mile circuit, which can be a tough challenge. Instead, walkers can choose a distance between eight checkpoints, covering anything from 1.5 miles to the full 21, and get a free bus back to their starting point when they’ve had enough.”

Kat added: “Every step you take will help raise vital awareness and funds for research and support that will make a real difference to those who are at risk from meningitis and those whose lives have already been changed forever because of it.

“The Five Valleys Walk is a great day out in the countryside and really does help Meningitis Now move closer to its vision, where no one dies from meningitis and everyone affected gets the support they need.

“We estimate across the UK 22 people a day get meningitis. That’s why this year we’re asking every Five Valleys walker to raise a minimum of £22 in sponsorship, or to donate £22, so that we can ensure everyone affected receives the support they need.

“Everything you need to get started with your fundraising will be included in your Welcome Pack, which you’ll receive when you sign up.”

The charity has organised for local businesses to join it along the route, providing snacks and drinks, and the Meningitis Now team will be ready to welcome walkers at Stroud Cricket Club with live music, hot food and – for those who manage the full 21 miles – a voucher for a free drink.

Kat added: “This year we also celebrate the vital role that the people of Stroud and the surrounding areas have played in the fight against meningitis over the last 36 years. Your support so far has helped introduce five meningitis vaccines into the UK vaccination programme

“In the wake of the Covid pandemic we need your help more than ever.

“Because meningitis can affect anyone at any time it’s the perfect opportunity for the whole family to do their bit to support people living with the impact of the disease. Please join us if you can.”

Tickets for the Five Valleys Walk cost £12.50 for an Adult (18+) and £6.50 for a Child (under 5s free). A Family ticket (2 adults and 2 children) is £35 and a Group ticket (4 adults) is £40.

Meningitis Now is working towards a future where no one in the UK loses their life to meningitis and everyone affected gets the support they need.

It does this by funding research into vaccines and prevention, raising awareness so people know what to look for and what action to take if they suspect meningitis and rebuilding futures by providing dedicated support to people living with the impact of the disease.
